Diop - can anybody tell me quite how he made it as a professional footballer?
Diop is by the worst defender I've seen in a hammers shirt. Panic's as soon as he's under the slightest pressure and has no physical presence in the box whatsoever. The fuck he made leading to their penalty was dire & the header he gave straight to them mid 2nd half for their main chance was dreadful.

Moyes has a big problem in this area - for me its equally as important as securing Lingaurd.

Other than that, absolutely brilliant display again last night. Moyes is going to become a manger right up there with Johnny Lyall and thats some compliment.

Made a couple of mistake, also made a number of good clearances.

But I’m assuming you’re starting the thread for the need for attention, so hopefully I’ve quenched that for you.

Worst defender in a hammers shirt that you've seen by far? Fuck me, you can't have seen too many then, as that's a list that you won't get onto a single sheet of A4.

As for Moyes heading towards being up there with Lyall after one fucking season - fuck me, the yoot of today...

Dandy, no, I started it because I think he's garbage, but tks for your input.

I can only assume you've only started supporting us this season if you think that Diop is by far the worst defender you've seen in a hammers shirt.

Yet statistically you could argue he is the best central defender in the team, he has the highest blocks per 90 mins and is second for combine successful tackles and interceptions. Last night he beat Dawson in almost all defensive stats.

BUT he looks like a rabbit in the headlights when he is on the ball.

So Diop is the new Benrahma i guess. There are players some people will never like, and that's okay, but i don't really understand all the hate towards them. He's made a mistake or 2 but had multiple brilliant clearances and won 8 aerial duels against the likes of Tarkowski, Wood and Barnes. Agendas..

"The fuck he made leading to their penalty was dire & the header he gave straight to them mid 2nd half for their main chance was dreadful." - sounds to me like you watch the game looking for Diop's mistakes, you wont be the first person on here to have a scapegoat.

I wonder what Moyes said to him at half time, as he was much better 2nd half.

He's a very good athlete and is a decent tackler, but his positioning for long balls, concentration and tendency to watch the ball and not the player makes him look worse than he is.

He's still young and will improve, but he's not up to this level at the moment.

Out of interest Yarmouth, what other players over say the last 5 years have you thought were garbage?

Yarmouth, what was he supposed to do for their penalty?

Dive in? He stayed on his feet the ball was flicked over his head.

He's not as bad as the OP is making out, of course, but on the same scale he has been massively overrated by the majority of our fans. As I was at pains to say last summer, we should've really tried to cash in whilst we could.

He's got all the physical attributes, and he does good things in a game, but he is not a natural defender and doesn't have natural defensive instincts, and makes mistakes every single game. If we can sell him in the summer for a half decent fee, we should bite hands off.

Thats just off the top of my head, I'm sure there are some awful ones I've missed that are much worse than Diop

Re: Diop - can anybody tell me quite how he made it as a professional footballer?
He's not the worst I have seen.

He's better when in a position or scenario where instinct is involved and he doesn't have to think about it.

As you say when under pressure, it's usually the latter and he needs to improve on that and also positioning to make sure he's under pressure less.

He's in the right company to learn and improve.

I dont know a single fan that overrates him, everyone I talk to see him as a solid young back up, who has a lot of athletic attributes but still have a lot to learn. Dont know anyone who would start him if everyone is fit.
